he Public Notary Azevêdo Bastos
The First Notary & Civil Registration Office of João Pessoa District in charge of registration of Births, Deaths, Marriages, Interdictions, Guardianships and Facts, including authenticating documents and signatures.
Known in Paraíba State as the “Cartório Azevêdo Bastos”, since its inception of its Public Notary Services in 1888 has been assisting customers with great responsibility and promptness, ever since.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Public Notary and the Registrar Sebastião de Azevêdo Bastos were summoned by the State Capital, to assume the First Civil Registration office.
This Notary office enjoys an excellent reputation by the three Powers (legislative, judicial and executive). In 1952, the position was transferred to Mrs. Bertha Azevêdo de Miranda, who took charge of this service with the same vigor, dynamic principles, great competence, seriousness and pride as her predecessor. For almost 40 years, not only did she work at the Civil Registration office, but also carried out her duties at the Paraíba State Electoral Justice Department.
In 1985 the title was transferred to the “Bachelor” (title conferred to a notary meaning someone who has a Bachelors degree) Válber Azevêdo de Miranda Cavalcanti, to whom was entrusted the continuity of this Notaries service. To the person: He graduated in Law at the Paraíba State Federal University (UFPB) and surrounded himself with top professionals, who are paramount to the continuation of this Public Notary and Registration Office.
With innovative spirit and a lot of drive Dr. Válber gave continuity to its predecessors' work, without forgetting that times changed and the need for modernizing the Public Notary Offices!
Therefore, in 1989 the notary public office and other fields of the civil registry were fully computerized, thus being pioneers in the North/Northeast (of Brazil) and one of the first five Brazilian Public Notary Offices to invest in this then new technology.
The notary public Azevêdo Bastos is a pioneer in the electronic document administration technology and other new technologies, such as the digital authentication of documents, are also the first Brazilian group of notary public offices which electronically certifying documents.
Dr. Azevêdo Bastos, having been a director at national and regional levels, his office is actively participating and carrying out the management, since 1986. He also was Director of the first ANOREG-BR administration for two terms, founder, counselor and Vice-president of ARPEN, Vice-president of ANOREG-PB, among other positions. Under his management, the “Cartório Azevêdo Bastos” became a national reference.
